Brake Rotor Replacement

Removal Procedure

Caution: Refer to Brake Dust Caution in Service Precautions.

Notice: Refer to Brake Fluid Effects on Paint and Electrical Component Notice in Service Precautions.





1. Inspect the brake fluid level in the brake master cylinder reservoir.
2. If the brake fluid is midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, no brake fluid needs to be removed from the reservoir before proceeding.





3. If the brake fluid level is higher than midway between the maximum-full point and the minimum allowable level, using an appropriate tool, remove the brake fluid to the midway point before proceeding.

Important The following service procedure is for 4WD vehicles ONLY.





4. Remove the steering knuckle from the vehicle. Refer, to Steering Knuckle Replacement (4WD) or Steering Knuckle Replacement (2WD) in Front Suspension.





5. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor assembly.

Important In the following service procedure, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly with wood when working on the bench.

6. Using two pieces of wood, support the wheel hub/brake rotor assembly.





7. Remove the wheel hub/speed sensor to brake rotor bolts.





8. Separate the brake rotor from the wheel bearing/hub assembly.
9. Clean the surface between the wheel bearing/hub assembly and the brake rotor.

Installation Procedure





1. Position the wheel bearing/hub on the brake rotor.

Notice: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.





2. Install the wheel bearing/hub mounting bolts.
^ Tighten the mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern to 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).

Important The following service procedure is for 4WD vehicles only.





3. Install the steering knuckle assembly.





4. Install the wheel bearing/hub, brake rotor assembly in the steering knuckle.





5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Inspect the fluid level. Refer to Master Cylinder Reservoir Filling in Hydraulic Brakes.
7. Burnish the brakes.
