Positive: Service and Repair
BATTERY POSITIVE CABLE REPLACEMENT
IMPORTANT
- Always use replacement cables that are of the same type, diameter and length of the cables that are being replaced.
- Always route the replacement cable the same way as the original cable.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disconnect the battery negative cable.
2. Open the protective cover (3) to access the battery positive cable terminal.
3. Loosen the battery positive cable nut (4).
4. Disconnect the battery positive cable from the battery.
5. Open the battery cables harness retainers (3, 4).
6. Press the locking tabs inward in order to remove the underhood fuse block cover from the underhood fuse block.
7. Remove the nut (3) securing the battery positive cable (4) to the underhood fuse block (1).
8. Remove the battery positive cable (4) from the upper portion of the battery cables harness conduit (6).
9. Raise and support the vehicle only high enough to access the remainder of the cable through the wheelhouse. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
10. Remove the left wheelhouse liner.
11. Remove the starter terminal nut (1) and disconnect the battery positive cable (2) from the starter.
12. Open the battery cables harness retainer (5) at the engine wiring harness bracket (1).
13. Remove the battery positive cable (2) from the battery cables harness conduit (6).
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
1. Insert the battery positive cable (2) into the battery cables harness conduit (6).
2. Close the battery cables harness retainer (5) at the engine wiring harness bracket (1).
3. Connect the battery positive cable (2) to the starter and install the starter terminal nut (1).
Tighten the battery positive cable to starter terminal nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
NOTE: Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
4. Install the left wheelhouse liner.
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Insert the battery positive cable (4) into the upper portion of the battery cables harness conduit (6).
7. Install the nut (3) securing the battery positive cable (4) to the underhood fuse block (1).
Tighten the battery positive cable to underhood fuse block nut to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
8. Install the underhood fuse block cover to the underhood fuse block, engaging the locking tabs.
9. Close the battery cables harness retainers (3, 4).
10. Clean any existing corrosion from the battery terminal and battery cable using a wire brush.
11. Connect the battery positive cable to the battery.
Tighten the battery cable nut (4) to 9 N.m (80 lb in).
12. Close the protective cover (3) over the battery positive cable terminal.
13. Connect the battery negative cable.
