DEF Control Module ReplacementDescription
The following A - F steps provide an overview procedure to replace and reprogram an DEF control module. Each A - F steps is explained further in this section.
A. Uploading the DEF control module data
The current DEF control module data can be uploaded with a scan tool. If the old DEF control module cannot be communicated with a scan tool, go to the next procedure. Follow the Isuzu Diagnostic Service System (IDSS) on screen instructions to upload the DEF control data from the old DEF control module.
B. Removal and Installation
Removal Procedure
1. Turn OFF the ignition until scan tool communication is interrupted.
2. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
3. Remove the radiator grille.
- Refer to Radiator Grille and Front Panel in Sheet Metal section.
4. Remove the DEF control module bracket nut (3).
5. Remove the DEF control module bracket (4).
6. Disconnect the DEF control module harness connectors.
7. Remove the DEF control module fixing bolts (2).
8. Remove the DEF control module (1).
Installation Procedure
9. Install the DEF control module (1).
10. Tighten the DEF control module fixing bolts (2).

Tightening torque: 10 N-m (87 lb-in)
11. Connect the DEF control module harness connectors.
12. Install the DEF control module bracket (4).
13. Tighten the DEF control module bracket nut (3).

Tightening torque: 20 N-m (14 lb-ft)
14. Connect the negative battery cable.
C. Programming the DEF control module
Program the latest software into the new DEF control module using the scan tool. Follow the IDSS onscreen instructions to programming the DEF control module.
D. Downloading the DEF control module Data
The old DEF control module data can be downloaded with a scan tool. If the old DEF control module cannot be communicated with a scan tool, go to E. Data reset the DEF control module. Follow the IDSS onscreen instructions to Download the DEF control module data from the old DEF control module.
E. Data reset the DEF control module
If the old DEF control module cannot be communicated with a scan tool, new DEF control module is data reset. Follow the IDSS onscreen instructions to DEF control module Data Reset.
F. Perform the DPF slow regeneration
If the old DEF control module cannot be communicated with a scan tool, Perform the DPF slow regeneration with a scan tool. Follow the IDSS on-screen instructions
If the regeneration is not completed successfully, the appropriate SCR control cannot be performed, and abnormal odors may be induced due to ammonia slip.
