Air Extractor Tray - Wind Noise

SUBJECT: AIR EXTRACTOR NOISE
MODEL: SERIES III SEDANS
Wind noise or rattles emanating from the air extractor tray should be rectified using the following methods:
METHOD ONE - FLAP RATTLE
1. Remove rear seat cushion, W/Shop Manual Op. 76.30.37.
2. Remove rear seat squab, W/Shop Manual Op. 76.70.38.
3. Release the nuts securing the cover over the sunroof motor wheelbox and remove the cover.
4. Release the cables from the wheelbox.
5. Release the nuts securing the sunroof motor mounting bracket.
6. Remove luggage compartment forward trim pad, W/Shop Manual Op. 76.13.17.
7. Disconnect motor feed wires.
8. Release and remove sunroof motor mount to motor securing bolts.
9. Remove motor mount.
10. Displace motor assembly from body.
11. Remove luggage compartment upper trim pad.
12. Release the nuts securing the extractor tray.
13. Release the drain tube hoses and remove the tray from the vehicle.
14. Take 4 lengths of foam rubber self adhesive strip 1/8" X 1/2" X 3-1/2" and adhere them to the flaps as illustrated in Figure 1A.
NOTE: If the strip is correctly positioned close into the corner and covering the hinge, it will also dampen the flap action and prevent fluttering.
15. Refit the extractor tray into the vehicle ensuring that the flange gaskets are undamaged.
16. Refit all components.

METHOD TWO - WIND ROAR
1. Refer to method one, instructions 1-13.
2. Adhere two lengths of foam rubber, 1" x 1" x 10" into the tray as illustrated in Figure 1B. This will alter the wind turbulence through the tray.
3. Refit the tray into the vehicle ensuring that the flange gaskets are undamaged.
