Oil Filter Assembly - Replacement with Sandwich Plate Removed

ISSUE:

The repair procedure to change the oil filter assembly when the sandwich plate has been removed is not included in the repair manual.

ACTION:

To replace the oil filter assembly when the sandwich plate has been removed, use the following procedure:

Removal

^ Disconnect the oxygen sensor harness multi-plugs.

^ Move the harness grommet from the inner fender.

^ From the wheel arch, dislodge the sensor harness from the retaining clips.

^ Raise the vehicle on a lift.

^ Remove the left hand front exhaust pipe heatshield mounting screws and remove heatshield.

^ Remove the left hand front exhaust catalyst down pipe.

^ Remove the oil cooler feed "P" clip to engine mounting bracket securing screw.

^ Remove the oil cooler feed pipe union nut.

^ Reposition the oil cooler feed pipe.

^ Remove the oil filter assembly mounting bolts and remove the oil filter assembly and gasket.

^ Clean engine gasket face if necessary.

^ Loosen the bleed hose to relief valve securing clip.

^ Remove the bleed hose and clip.

Installation

^ Install bleed hose securing clip to the bleed hose.

^ Install bleed hose to the relief valve. Install and tighten the securing clip.



^ Position the new gasket over the oil filter assembly mounting bolts.

^ Align and install the oil filter assembly to the engine block.

^ Install and tighten the oil filter assembly mounting bolts.

^ Fully install the oil filter feed pipe to the oil filter assembly.

^ Tighten the oil cooler feed pipe union nut.

^ Install and tighten the oil cooler pipe "P" clip to the engine mounting bracket screw.

^ Align and install the left hand front exhaust pipe heat shield.

^ Install left hand front exhaust catalyst down pipe.

^ Lower the lift/vehicle.

^ Route oxygen sensor harness under the wheel arch and secure harness in the retaining clips.

^ Reposition the harness multi-plugs through the inner fender and fully install harness grommet.
