CONDITION SUMMARY:
SOFTWARE LEVEL PERMITS ENGINE DETONATION
Situation:
A customer may experience detonation (pinging) under light engine load. The Engine Control Module detonation calibration software is not robust in light loads conditions.
Action:
Should a customer express concern, re-configure the Engine Control Module (ECM) to the new software level to resolve this issue using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS). Follow the Repair Procedure outlined in this bulletin.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
UPDATE ECM SOFTWARE
CAUTION:
This procedure requires IDS DVD107 patch file 6 or later
CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis and software downloads.
1. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.
2. Connect IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle.
3. Follow the IDS prompts to read the vehicle configuration.
4. When prompted Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes? select NO and then press 'tick' to continue.
5. When the Content Model is displayed, select Vehicle Configuration tab.
6. Select from the menu Module Programming.
7. Select Configure Existing Modules from the drop down menu.
8. Select Engine Control Module from the menu and then press 'tick' to continue.
9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.
10. When the task is completed, exit the current session.
11. Disconnect IDS and the battery power supply.
