SERVICE ACTION: TCM Software Update

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:

CONDITION SUMMARY:

TCM FREEZE FRAME DATA NOT STORED

Situation:

A limited number of New XK vehicles may have been manufactured away from process, and in some cases the Engine Control Module (ECM) is unable to report the freeze frame data on behalf of the Transmission Control Module (TCM). There is no affect on the customer as the vehicle remains fully operable.

Action:

Unsold vehicles must be repaired prior to hand-over of the vehicle for retail sale. For those vehicles in the hands of the customer, you are requested to repair the vehicle at the first available opportunity using IDS DVD107 patch file 6 or later. Follow the Repair Procedure in this Bulletin.

NOTE:
When confirming an appointment check DDW to ensure that all outstanding Service Campaigns are identified. Always ensure that the specific vehicle is affected by this Service Action prior to undertaking any rework action and determine if any other Service Campaigns may be outstanding on the vehicle.

Warranty claims should be submitted quoting Program Code K005, together with the relevant Option Code from the table. This will result in payment of the stated time. As Option Codes are used, there is no requirement for you to enter parts or labor; these are provided for information only.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

UPDATE ECM SOFTWARE

CAUTION:
A Midtronics PSC-550 Vehicle Power Supply must be connected to the vehicle battery during diagnosis and software downloads.

1. Connect the Midtronics PSC-550 power supply to the vehicle battery.

CAUTION:
This procedure requires IDS DVD107 patch file 6 or later

2. Connect IDS to the vehicle and begin a new diagnostic session by entering the correct VIN for the current vehicle.

3. Follow the IDS prompts to read the vehicle configuration.

4. When prompted 'Do you wish to read diagnostic trouble codes?' select 'NO' and then press 'tick' to continue.

5. When the 'Content Model' is displayed, select 'Vehicle Configuration' tab.

6. Select from the menu 'Module Programming'.

7. Select 'Configure Existing Modules' from the drop down menu.

8. Select 'Engine Control Module' from the menu and then press 'tick' to continue.

9. Follow all on-screen instructions to complete this task.

10. When the task is completed, exit the current session.

11. Disconnect IDS and the battery power supply.
