PINPOINT TEST G92429p8 : DTC P0196, P0197, P0198. OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR

G92429t43 : CHECK THE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR SIGNAL WIRE FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25.
3. Disconnect the ECM electrical connector EN16.
4. Measure the resistance between the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25, pin 1 (Y) and the ECM electrical connector EN16, pin 78 (Y).

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

-> YES
GO to Pinpoint Test G92429t44.

-> NO
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

G92429t44 : CHECK THE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN CIRCUIT
1. Measure the resistance between the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25, pin 2 (BG) and GROUND.

- Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?

-> YES
GO to Pinpoint Test G92429t158.

-> NO
REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

G92429t158 : CHECK THE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR SHORT TO BATTERY
1. Connect ECM electrical connector, EN16.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
3. Measure the voltage between the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25, pin 2 (BG) and GROUND.

- Is the voltage greater than 1 volt?

-> YES
REPAIR the short circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

-> NO
GO to Pinpoint Test G92429t45.

G92429t45 : CHECK THE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
1. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position.
2. Disconnect ECM electrical connector, EN16.
3. Measure the resistance between the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25, pin 1 (Y) and GROUND.

- Is the resistance less than 10,000 ohms?

-> YES
REPAIR the short to GROUND. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

-> NO
GO to Pinpoint Test G92429t46.

G92429t46 : CHECK THE OIL TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO BATTERY
1. Connect ECM electrical connector, EN16.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
3. Measure the voltage between the oil temperature sensor electrical connector EN25, pin 1 (Y) and GROUND.

- Is the voltage greater than 10 volts?

-> YES
REPAIR the short to battery. CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation.

-> NO
INSTALL a new oil temperature sensor.
CLEAR the DTCs. TEST the system for normal operation. If the DTC is repeated, INSTALL a new ECM. Before replacing an ECM, contact dealer technical support.
