Mechanical Pinpoint Tests

PINPOINT TEST G509900p1 : CHECK THE TURBOCHARGER MECHANICAL CONDITION

G509900t1 : CHECK THE TURBOCHARGER MECHANICAL FUNCTION
1. Disconnect the intake hose from the turbocharger.
2. Using a suitable mirror and torch, check for obstructions in the turbocharger intake.
3. Using finger pressure only, check that the turbocharger vanes spin freely.

- Does the turbocharger spin freely?

-> YES
GO to Pinpoint Test G509900t2.

-> NO
INSTALL a new turbocharger.

G509900t2 : CHECK FOR EXCESSIVE PLAY IN THE TURBOCHARGER SHAFT
1. Disconnect the intake and outlet hoses from the turbocharger.
2. Check that the turbocharger rotates freely, and without noise.
3. Grip the ends of the turbine shaft at either side of the turbocharger and assess the play.

- Is the play in the shaft excessive? (Compare the play to a known good vehicle in the event of uncertainty).

-> YES
INSTALL a new turbocharger. CLEAR any DTCs. TEST the vehicle for normal operation.

-> NO
CHECK for other sources of noise. RECHECK the turbocharger system for the cause of the lack of boost.
