Tire Valve Stem Damage During Manual Tire Pressure Checking or
Low Tire Pressure Warnings Illuminated

AFFECTED VEHICLE RANGE:
XF (X250)
VIN: R00001 - R59554
Model Year: 2009 - 2010

XJ (X350) w/Tire Pressure Monitoring System only
VIN: H09755 - H32692
Model Year: 2007 - 2009

XK (X150) w/Tire Pressure Monitoring System only
VIN: B00001 - B35379
Model Year: 2007 - 2010

CONDITION SUMMARY:
Situation: On vehicles fitted with Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) only, the following issues have been identified:

^ The valve stem may be damaged during manual tire pressure checking when either the valve cap is removed or when an airline is attached, resulting in the sudden and complete loss of air. It is not possible to refill the tire with air.

^ The Low Tire Pressure warning will be illuminated and associated instrument pack messages displayed; this is due to the gradual loss of air through the TPMS tire valve assembly.

NOTE:
Always replace all four (vehicle set) low tire pressure sensors (five low tire pressure sensors if the vehicle has a full size-spare).

NOTE:
Jaguar Engineering do not recommend the fitment of metal dust caps to vehicles fitted with TPMS, Warranty claims will not be accepted. Any vehicle found with metal / chrome valve dust caps on TPMS tire valves must have them removed and replaced with the Factory-fitted plastic valve dust caps, part number XR8 51652.

NOTE:
Owners must be informed of the consequences of putting metal valve caps on aluminum TPMS tire valves as this will void the warranty of the TPMS valve assemblies as the plastic cap is the engineering specified fit.

NOTE:
Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to replace the complete vehicle set (four or five) of new low tire pressure sensors.

PARTS:
C2Z 15017 ............... Low tire pressure sensors - 315Mhz Qty: 4 or 5 as required

TOOLS:
Refer to Workshop Manual for any required special tools

WARRANTY:

NOTE:
Repair procedures are under constant review, and therefore times are subject to change; those quoted here must be taken as guidance only. Always refer to DDW to obtain the latest repair time.

DDW requires the use of causal part numbers. Labor only claims must show the causal part number with a quantity of zero.

Normal Warranty policies and procedures apply.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

VERIFY LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR DAMAGE

REPLACE LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSORS

1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 204-04, Wheels and Tires, and replace all low tire pressure sensors.

TIRE / LOW TIRE PRESSURE SENSOR LEARN PROCESS

1. Place TPMS in 'Parking Mode' by removing ignition key from vehicle and letting vehicle sit in place for a minimum of 15 minutes.

NOTE:
Ensure all local traffic regulations are observed.

2. Drive vehicle for at least 15 minutes at speeds above 12 mph (20kph).

^ If the vehicle speed remains below 12 mph (20kph) for more than 15 minutes, the learn process timer will be set to 'zero' and the learn process starts again.

^ If the vehicle speed drops below 12 mph (20kph), the learn process timer is suspended until the vehicle speed increases to more than 12 mph (20kph).
