Squeal from Front Brakes - 355 mm Brake Discs Only

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:
On vehicles fitted with 355mm (14.0 in) front brake discs only, a squeal noise from the front brakes may be evident at low speed and when completing a stop. This may be caused by a brake caliper anchor and housing vibration.

Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to replace the front brake calipers springs.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

REPLACE FRONT BRAKE CALIPER SPRING - BOTH SIDES

WARNING:
Make sure to support the vehicle with axle stands.





1. Refer to Workshop Manual section 204-04: Wheels and tires, and remove the left-front wheel & tire assembly.

WARNING:
Take care when removing the spring.

CAUTION:
Removal of the clips is a delicate procedure; damage will occur if any force is used.

NOTE:
Note the installed position of the component prior to removal.

NOTE:
LH shown; RH similar.

2. Using a suitable tool, carefully remove and discard the brake caliper spring.

^ Lever the anti-rattle spring in the center of the spring until either side is released.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the new-design spring is installed to the vehicle.

3. Discard the old spring.

WARNING:
Take care when installing the spring.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the new-design spring is installed to the vehicle.

NOTE:
LH shown; RH similar.

4. Install the new-design spring.

^ Secure the bottom arm of the anti-rattle spring under the bottom anchor bracket of the caliper.

^ Compress the upper spring arm into the correct position, under the upper anchor bracket, whilst retaining the logo plate.

^ Using the screw-driver, tap the central locating tag into the locked position.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the new-design spring is correctly installed to the noted removal position.





5. Check that the new-design spring is correctly installed.

6. Refer to Workshop Manual section 204-04: Wheels and tires, and install the left-front wheel & tire assembly.

7. Repeat steps 1 - 6 to the right-front brake caliper.
