Rattle Noise from Roof Opening Panel I Headliner Area

CONDITION SUMMARY:

Situation:
A rattle noise from around the roof opening panel / headliner area may be present while driving.

This may be caused by torque relaxation of the roof opening panel fixing screws.

Action:
In the event of a customer concern of the above, refer to the Repair Procedure outlined below to apply thread lock to the roof opening panel fixing screws.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

APPLY THREAD LOCK TO ROOF OPENING PANEL CASSETTE FIXINGS

CAUTION:
Before starting the Workshop Procedure, protect the complete interior of the car from damage, staining, or dirt. Make sure suitable clean gloves are worn especially when handling the headliner.

CAUTION:
Make sure the headliner is fully supported, and that the wiring harnesses are not damaged during re-positioning.

NOTE:
Some steps require the aid of another technician.

1. Refer to Workshop Manual, section 501-05: Headliner, and lower the headliner:

Follow steps 1, 3-7, 10-16, and 18-19 to lower the headliner.

CAUTION:
Only remove one bolt at any one time.

CAUTION:
If installed, note the fitted position of the spacer washer.

CAUTION:
Make sure that the bolt thread is clear from debris.

NOTE:
Suitable thread lock adhesives include Loctite 270, Loctite 272, Loctite 278 or 3M Rite-Lok RT01.





2. Remove one bolt at a time, follow sub steps 'a' and 'b', and then install that bolt before moving to the next bolt:
(Figure 1)

a. Apply suitable thread locking adhesive to the thread on the bolt.

b. Install the bolt and tighten to 9 Nm.

c. Repeat the procedure to the other seven bolts.

3. To install the headliner, reverse the removal procedure in step 1.
