Exhaust Gas Recirculation: Service and Repair


EGR VALVE, REPLACE

1. On four and eight cylinder engines, remove air cleaner assembly.
2. Disconnect vacuum lines from valve, then remove valve retaining screws and the valve.
3. Clean EGR pintle and gasket mating surfaces.
4. Reverse procedure to install.

VACUUM DUMP VALVE, REPLACE

1. Disconnect vacuum lines from valve and remove the valve.
2. Reverse procedure to install, ensuring that manifold vacuum line is connected to port A and EGR valve vacuum line is connected to port B.

TVS, REPLACE

1. Remove air cleaner and filter.
2. Remove TVS retaining clips and disconnect vacuum lines, then remove the TVS.
3. Reverse procedure to install.

CTO SWITCH, REPLACE
1. Drain coolant from radiator.
2. On V8 engines, remove air cleaner assembly. On V8 engines, it may be necessary to remove the ignition coil bracket attaching screw and move the coil away from the CTO switch.
3. Disconnect vacuum lines from valve and remove the valve.
4. Reverse procedure to install.
