1985 KEYLESS ENTRY SYSTEM - ERRATIC OPERATION

Some 1985 Alliance, Encore, Eagle, and Cherokee/Wagoneer model vehicles equipped with the optional keyless entry system may experience an inoperative/intermittent condition when attempting to operate the transmitter.

This erratic condition is the result of poor contacts at the terminal connection.

This condition may be corrected by performing the following procedures.
PROCEDURE

1. Remove the receiver cover trim plate located above the windshield (between the sun visors).

2. Disconnect the receiver from the wiring harness terminal connection.

TERMINAL PIN AND CONNECTOR TERMINAL LOCATION:

3. Tighten the terminal connector Insert a terminal pin (A) (fine pointed awl or test lamp probe) into the connector terminal (B) and pry the terminal pins in an upward direction. Be sure the receiver has good electrical contact.
4. Reinstall the receiver and receiver cover trim plate.

5. Press the transmitter and observe the indicator light. A glowing condition means that the transmitter batteries are properly charged.
6. Aim the transmitter at the receiver to confirm that the receiver is operating properly (ie. that it unlocks and locks the doors).
