Timing Chain Cover Replacement


1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove crankshaft pulley hub, then remove alternator bracket.
3. Remove fan and shroud attaching nuts, then loosen drive belts and remove fan and shroud.
4. Remove oil pan to timing case cover attaching screws, then pull cover slightly forward to permit cutting of oil pan front seal.
5. Using a suitable cutting tool, cut oil pan front seal flush with engine block at both sides of cover.
6. Remove front cover with attached portion of oil pan front seal.
7. Clean timing case cover and cylinder block gasket surfaces.
8. Cut tabs from a replacement oil pan front oil seal.
9. Install seal on timing case cover, inserting tips into holes provided in cover.
10. Coat gasket with gasket sealer, then position gasket on cover.
11. Apply a 1/8 inch bead of RTV sealer to joint surface formed at oil pan and cylinder block.
12. Position centering tool J-23042 into timing case cover oil seal, then position cover on block and install and partially tighten two oil pan to timing case cover attaching screws.
13. Install timing case cover to cylinder block attaching screws.
14. Tighten all timing case cover attaching screws, then remove centering tool.
15. Install alternator bracket, crankshaft pulley hub, fan and shroud.
16. Tighten all drive belts, then connect battery ground cable.
