Troubleshooting
ALTERNATOR LAMP DOES NOT ILLUMINATE WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON
1. Check if alternator connector is loose or disconnected.
2. Check ring terminal on alternator case for proper ground.
3. Ground wide terminal on connector, then check bulb by ensuring lamp lights.
ALTERNATOR LAMP ILLUMINATES WITH IGNITION SWITCH ON
1. If warning lamp illuminates when engine is operating, a charging system defect is indicated. Check for loose or broken alternator drive belt, defective alternator or defective regulator.
2. If regulator voltage is less than 12.5 volts, check for defective diodes, an open stator winding, excessive carbon on slip rings and/or worn brushes.
