Testing

ALTERNATOR VOLTAGE TEST

1. Connect a suitable voltmeter across battery terminals.
2. Start engine, then increase RPM until voltmeter pointer remains steady. Voltage should be 12.5-15 volts.
3. Turn on as many accessories as possible with, then recheck voltage reading. Reading should be 12.5-15 volts.

ROTOR TEST

1. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check resistance between the two sections of the rotor slip rings. Take resistance readings at a minimum of four points around slip rings.
2. Resistance should be 2.9-3.5 ohms on 60 amp rotor or 3.0-3.6 ohms on 75 amp rotor. If resistance is not as specified, replace rotor.

STATOR TEST

1. Using a suitable ohmmeter, check resistance across each stator wire connections.
2. Connect test leads to wires A and B, then note resistance.
3. Connect test leads to wires B and C, then note resistance.
4. Connect test leads to wires A and C, then note resistance.
5. Resistance across each stator wire should not exceed .1± .01 ohms. on 60 amp stators or .08 ohms ±.008 ohms on 75 amp stators. Replace stator if resistance is not as specified.
