Secondary Ignition Tests
1. Disconnect coil wire from distributor cap, then using insulated pliers, hold wire approximately 1/2 inch a good engine ground. Crank engine an observe wire for spark.
a. If spark is present, proceed to step 2.
b. If no spark is present, proceed to step 3.
2. Connect coil wire to distributor cap, then disconnect one spark plug wire at spark plug. Do not disconnect spark plug wire form cylinder No. 3 on 4-150 engine, cylinders No. 1 and 5 on 6-258 engines or cylinders 3 and 4 on V8-360 engines. Removal of these spark plug wires may result in damage to sensor. Using insulated pliers hold spark plug wire approximately 1/2 inch from a good engine ground. While cranking engine, observe wire for spark.
a. If spark is present, check ignition timing or fuel system problems.
b. If no spark is present, check for defective distributor cap, rotor or spark plug wires.
3. If no spark was present at coil wire, measure coil secondary winding resistance. If resistance is more than 12,000 ohms, replace coil.
4. If problem still exist, proceed with the following test procedures.
