Motorcraft Solid State Ignition System


1. Check ignition coil for oil leaks, carbon tracking and other exterior damage and replace as necessary.
2. Disconnect ignition coil electrical connector and connect an ohmmeter between coil positive and negative terminals. Ohmmeter reading should be 1.13 to 1.23 ohms at 75°F or 1.5 ohms at 200°F.
a. If ohmmeter reading is not within limits, replace coil.
b. If ohmmeter reading is within limits, proceed to step 3.
3. Connect ohmmeter between coil center tower and either coil positive or negative terminal. Ohmmeter reading should be 7700 to 9300 ohms at 75°F or 12000 ohms at 200°F.
a. If ohmmeter reading is within limits, coil is satisfactory.
b. If ohmmeter reading is not within limits, replace coil.
