Idle Up Control Valve: Adjustments

1. Connect a tachometer to the negative terminal of the ignition coil. START the engine and warm to normal operating temperature. The carburetor choke and intake manifold heater must be off, which occurs at approximately 71°C (160°F) engine coolant temperature. STOP the engine.

Solenoid-Vacuum Actuator:

Solenoid Vacuum Actuator Wire Connection:

2. Disconnect and plug the sole-vac vacuum hose, and disconnect the sole-vac electrical connector.
3. START the engine and place manual transmission vehicles in NEUTRAL, and automatic transmission vehicles in DRIVE to set the idle speed, and turn all accessories off. Set the parking brake securely.

Curb Idle Screw Adjustment:

4. Increase the engine rpm to above 1200 for 3 to 5 seconds, and return to curb idle speed. Adjust the curb idle speed adjustment screw to obtain the correct curb idle speed, refer to SPECIFICATIONS for correct setting.
5. Connect a hand held vacuum pump to the sole-vac actuator, and apply a 34-51 kPa (10-15 in-hg) vacuum to the actuator. Increase the engine rpm to above 1200 for 3 to 5 seconds, and allow the engine to return to curb idle speed. This will fully extend the sole-vac positioner.

Solenoid Vacuum Actuator Adjustment Screw:

6. Turn the sole-vac actuator adjustment screw to obtain the correct vacuum actuator energized idle speed, refer to SPECIFICATIONS for correct setting. After adjustment remove the vacuum pump from the actuator.
7. Connect one end of a jumper wire to battery voltage, and touch the other end to the sole-vac solenoid terminal to energize the solenoid. Hold the throttle open manually to allow the throttle positioner to extend all the way.

Solenoid Vacuum Throttle Positioner:

8. Refer to SPECIFICATIONS for the correct holding solenoid idle speed and compare to tachometer. If the idle speed is not within specification, adjust the sole-vac throttle positioner to obtain the correct reading.
9. STOP the engine, and disconnect the jumper wire from the sole-vac solenoid, and battery voltage. Reconnect the vacuum hose to the sole-vac solenoid, and remove the tachometer.
