To: All Jeep/Eagle Dealers Except California

Subject: Emissions Recall # 297T -- Emissions Maintenance Timer Fuse

Models: The Following 1990 Model Year Jeep Vehicles Equipped With 2.5L or 4.0L Engines and Federal Emission Systems:

^ Cherokee and Wagoneer Built From 2/22/90 to 6/27/90 (MDH 02-22-00 Through 96-27-15)

Reference: Electronic Mail to all Jeep/Eagle dealers 8/23/90 on above subject.

The vehicles listed above may have been built without a required 10 ampere fuse for the Emissions Maintenance Timer (EMT) circuit. In order to comply with Federal regulations, all involved vehicles must be inspected and corrected as necessary by installing the required fuse.

Fuses will be mailed directly to owners known to Chrysler for the owners to install (or for installation by their dealers if preferred).

Important: Some of the involved vehicles may still be in dealer stock. Be sure to complete the service on these vehicles before retail delivery.

Details of this service action are explained in the following sections.

Note: No videotape of the service procedure will be provided with the VideoTec program for this recall because the requirements are easy to understand.

Vehicle List

Each dealer to whom involved vehicles were invoiced (or the current dealer at the same location) will receive a vehicle list with this letter arranged in Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) sequence. Owners known to Chrysler are also listed. The lists are for dealer reference in arranging for service of involved vehicles.

Each Jeep/Eagle dealer without a Vehicle List will receive an information copy of this letter by Compak Mail for use in performing the service on involved vehicles upon request.
