DRBII Menu

The DRBII Menu offers four selections;

1 Vehicles Tested
2 How to Use
3 Configure
4 Select Vehicle

There are two ways to make a selection whenever a menu is offered. The easiest manner is to simply enter the number appearing at the left of the option desired. For simple menus, where the user is limited to two options (fitting on a single display), entering the option number is obviously preferred. However, for longer menus where additional options do not appear on the screen, the second method may be needed.

Note that when the menu appears, a right facing arrow arid a left facing arrow appear to the left and right, respectively, of the first option. These two arrows are called option pointers. By pressing the down facing YES) arrow key, the option pointer moves down. By pressing the down facing YES) arrow key repeatedly the option pointer will advance (scroll) to the last option available. If there are more options available than will fit on a single screen (more than two), additional options will be displayed (those not selected will be erased from the screen). Pressing the upward facing (NO) arrow key will cause the option pointer to move upward to the first option available. In all cases, the option pointer will advance (scroll) one option per key pressed (upward or downward).

The first line of the display always contains the menu name. At the left and right of the menu name, upward and downward facing arrows may appear to indicate that the user may move the option pointer downward (more options available) or upward (some that have not been selected have been erased and may be displayed again). Once the option pointer is pointing to an option desired, simply press the ENTER key to select the option. Of course, hitting the number corresponding to the option at any time will also select that option.

VEHICLES TESTED
By pressing the key marked "1", or by pressing the ENTER key when the option pointers are pointing to the "Vehicles Tested" option, a screen will appear showing the vehicles supported with the cartridge used. This screen will appear for approximately 5 seconds and will be automatically erased and the DRBII Menu will again appear. Pressing the ATM key, while the "Vehicles Tested" screen is displayed, will immediately return the user to the DRBII Menu (whether or not 5 seconds has elapsed).

HOW TO USE
Pressing the key marked "2", or by moving the option pointer to the How to Use option (pressing the downward facing arrow) and pressing ENTER, will provide instructions for the use of the DRBII with the cartridge being used. The instructions are brief, easy to follow and detail how the keyboard may be used to select the tests and display options desired. In addition to instructions on how to select options and use the option pointers, the user is reminded that:

^ pressing F3 at any time will display a HELP screen,
^ pressing ATM will always return to the previous menu,
^ pressing MODE and ATM (press and hold the MODE key, then press ATM while still holding down the MODE key) will reset the DRBII ('just like disconnecting the DRBII and connecting it to the vehicle again),
^ pressing the VOLT/OHM will enable the multimeter functions.

Portions of the HOW TO USE feature are provided as HELP screens upon pressing the F3 key.

CONFIGURE
Pressing the key marked "3", or by moving the option pointer to Configure (pressing the downward facing arrow) and pressing ENTER, will access the Configure option and allow the user to customize the DRBII display for various reasons prior to performing a test. For example, should the Metric system be more useful than "U.S.", simply select Metric from the appropriate menu. All selections made under the "Configure" menu remain active until the user specifically changes to another selection.

If "Configure" is selected from the menu the following menu will appear:

CONFIGURE
1) DRBII SYSTEM
2) FUEL SYSTEM

DRBII System
Press 1 or enter to access "DRBII System" and the following menu is available:

CONFIGURE DRBII Default Values:
1) US/METRIC 1) US
2) DECIMAL/HEX 2) DECIMAL
3) KEY CLICK 3) BEEPER
4) REMOTE DISPLAY 4) NO

A metric option provides metric values for technicians having that preference. The HEX selection is primarily intended for engineering applications where numbers represented in base 16 may be advantageous. To signal that a DRBII key has been depressed, the KEY CLICK selection allows either a red or green LED option. The REMOTE DISPLAY provision allows the DRBII screen to be shown on a video monitor for display or training purposes.

Items 1) US/Metric, 2) Decimal/Hex, and 4) Remote Display are simple two choice selections. Item 3) Key Click, selected, will provide the following menu:

KEY CLICK
1) BEEPER
2) RED LED
3) GREEN LED
4) NONE

These selections determine which signal is to be used to show that a DRBII key has been pressed.

Fuel System
Press 2 or scroll and press enter to access "Fuel System" and the following menu will appear:

CONFIG FUEL SYS
1) UNLEADED FUEL
2) LEADED FUEL

The selection of "Leaded fuel" is only intended for use in countries where there are vehicles designed to operate with leaded fuel. This selection will prevent the DRBII software from looking for and testing the O2 sensor. When shipped, all cartridges are defaulted to "Unleaded fuel".

Select Vehicle
The Select Vehicle option provides a means whereby the user must enter information about the vehicle and system that will be tested. Typically, the Select Vehicle menu will extend beyond one screen (greater than two options). Until the user becomes familiar with all options available, moving the option pointer to the option desired and pressing ENTER is the preferred method of selecting the vehicle to be tested.

Selecting the vehicle is very important, as other menus, showing which options are available for the vehicle selected depend on the proper entry. Furthermore, one of the first tests that the DRBII performs is to read the data from the vehicle's ECU to ensure that the proper ECU is installed (or to indicate to the user that the wrong vehicle was selected) When the vehicle is selected, another menu showing the model years supported for the vehicle chosen is displayed The model year must be selected.

Once the vehicle and model year are selected, a series of menus are displayed corresponding to the option(s) available for that vehicle during that model year. In most cases, these menus are simple two option displays, allowing the use to indicate whether the vehicle being tested is equipped with the opt ion or not. Note that if an option is NOT available for the vehicle during the model year selected, the option will NOT be displayed at all.

Upon completion of all the vehicle and option information, a confirming menu is displayed. This INFO YOU ENTERED menu displays a summary of data selected and an additional option marked CONFIRM. By pressing CONFIRM, the user confirms that the information is correct and he/she is ready to proceed to the MAIN MENU. Pressing one of the appropriate number keys or the ENTER key (when the option pointer points to the information in question) will again display the corresponding selection menu. This feature allows the user to correct entry errors.

Note that if the user changes the vehicle and/or model year selected, options may be added or deleted (automatically) depending on the change. Again, the INFO YOU ENTERED menu will provide the user with a means to review all of the data entered.
