Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Main Menu

The "Main Menu" presents all of the diagnostic functions available through the DRBII for the vehicle, model year, and options previously entered. Functions available are:

- SYSTEM TESTS
- READ FAULTS
- STATE DISPLAYS
- ACTUATOR TESTS ADJUSTMENTS

SYSTEM TESTS
A "System Test" is an interactive, functional test of a particular system. During a System Test, the display provides instructions to the technician ("Turn Key On", "Shift to Park", "Turn ON A/C", etc.) and monitors signals in the diagnostic connector to ensure that the requested act has been performed. If an operation requested by the tester has been performed, and the DRBII continues to display the same instruction, the technician should indicate that he has satisfied the request by pressing the ENTER key. A fault will be generated since the technician has performed a requested action and the tester had not seen any indication from the diagnostic pins.

If after performing a "System Test", the DRBII was unable to determine that there was a fault with the system, the message "NO FAULTS DETECTED" is displayed.

READ FAULTS
The "READ FAULTS" function is intended only for use with the Antilock Brake System (ABS). This function gives results of on-board tests.

STATE DISPLAYS
The state display function enables the technician to view conditions as they exist at the signal level. There are two types of data that are monitored for diagnostic purposes: analog and digital. Analog signals are monitored at those pins corresponding to vehicle harness splices (fuel pump relay, battery voltage, etc.). Digital signals correspond to the data transmitted by the system controllers. In both cases, the data is displayed in common units (temperature, pressure, etc.), and is not analyzed relative to diagnostic intent.

When the State Display option is selected, a menu showing the systems for which state displays are supported is displayed. If the Engine state display is selected, the user has the option to view the following:

ACTUATOR TESTS
Actuator tests are not available at this time.

ADJUSTMENTS
When selected from the Main Menu, the ADJUSTMENTS option provides for two types of adjustments; adjusting the Throttle Position Sensor or erasing stored information (stored in the system controller). Whether or not the TPS can be adjusted or if there is any stored information that may require erasure, is dependent on the vehicle and systems selected through the SELECT VEHICLE option from the DRBII Menu.

In all cases, simply follow the instructions as displayed on the DRBII to accomplish the desired adjustment. All adjustments are automatic (other than connections that the technician must make).
