Emissions Maintenance Light: Service and Repair
OPERATION
The Single Board Engine Controller (SBEC), keeps track of vehicle mileage by monitoring the vehicle distance (speed) sensor, and illuminates the Emissions Maintenance Reminder (EMR) lamp at 60,000 miles, 82,500 miles, and 120,000 miles, to inform the driver that emission system maintenance is required. After the recommended maintenance has been performed the mileage counter in the SBEC must be reset.
LIABILITY
Reseting the EMR light without performing the required maintenance may be in violation of federal law. Only after performing the required maintenance, should the EMR light be reset.
PROCEDURE
Resetting the EMR light requires the use of the DRBII or equivalent scan tool. Refer to COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS for reset procedures.
If the SBEC is replaced, the current mileage must be entered into memory of the new controller. For more information refer to COMPUTERIZED ENGINE CONTROLS.
