Ignition Switch: Service and Repair
The ignition switch is mounted on the lower portion of the steering column and is connected to the steering lock by a remote actuator rod.REMOVAL
1. Disconnect battery ground cable, then remove windshield wiper intermittent control module and bracket, if equipped.
2. Place ignition lock in Accessory position.
3. Tape ignition and dimmer switch actuator rods to steering column.
4. Remove dimmer switch mounting nut, then lift switch from column while disengaging actuator rod.
5. Remove ignition switch to column mounting screws, then disengage switch actuator rod.
6. Remove ignition switch and disconnect electrical connectors.
INSTALLATION
1. Place ignition lock in Accessory position.
2. Place slider bar, in ignition switch, into Accessory detent position.
3. Connect electrical connectors to switch, then install actuator rod to switch.
4. Install switch to steering column. Ensure slider bar stays in Accessory detent.
5. Remove ignition switch actuator rod securing tape from column.
6. Install and hand tighten ignition switch mounting screws.
7. Adjust ignition switch as follows:
a. On models without tilt steering column, while holding key lock switch in Accessory position, gently slide switch towards steering wheel. Tighten mounting screws.
CAUTION:
Do not allow switch to move form Accessory detent.
b. On models with tilt steering column, while holding key lock switch in Accessory position, gently slide switch away from steering wheel.
c. Tighten mounting screws. Do not allow switch to move form Accessory detent.
8. Install dimmer switch as follows:
a. Remove one screw from ignition switch. Do not remove stud/nut.
b. Install actuator rod to switch and position over ignition switch, then install switch.
c. Install and hand tighten dimmer switch mounting screws, then remove dimmer switch actuator rod securing tape from column.
9. Adjust dimmer switch as follows:

a. Depress switch slightly and insert a 3/32 inch drill bit into adjustment hole.
b. Move switch toward steering wheel, then torque dimmer/ignition switch mounting screw to 35 inch lbs.
10. Install windshield wiper intermittent control module and bracket, if equipped.
11. Install battery ground cable and test operation of ignition and dimmer switches.
