Safety Recall # 764 -- Power Brake Booster

^ This service requirement applies only to:

^ 1998 Model Year Jeep Grand Cherokee (ZJ) Vehicles Built From October 29, 1997 Through November 6, 1997 (MDH 102915 Through 110621)

^ 1998 Model Year Jeep Cherokee (XJ) Vehicles Built From October 29, 1997 Through November 7, 1997 (MDH 102918 Through 110720)

^ 1998 Model Year Jeep Wrangler (TJ) Vehicles Built From October 29, 1997 Through November 7, 1997 (MDH 102909 Through 110707)

^ The brake booster diaphragm on the above listed vehicles, may split or rupture causing a loss of power brake assist. To correct this condition, the power brake booster must be inspected and replaced if necessary.

^ Because the brake booster inspection only takes a few minutes to complete, we encourage you to consider alternative servicing approaches for this recall. CONSIDERATION SHOULD BE GIVEN TO PERFORMING THE BOOSTER INSPECTION IN THE WRITE-UP AREA AS THE CUSTOMER WAITS, OR SENDING A TECHNICIAN TO THE OWNER'S HOME OR PLACE OF BUSINESS. Brake booster replacement (if required) does not require a hoist or other full service facility special equipment and is a CHRYSLER MOBILE SERVICE approved repair.

Alternate Transportation:

^ If inspection determines that brake booster replacement is required and the vehicle must be held overnight, dealers should attempt to minimize customer inconvenience by placing the owner in a loaner vehicle.

Parts Packages:

^ Due to the small number of vehicles expected to require brake booster replacement, no parts will be distributed for this recall. DEALERS ARE REQUESTED TO ORDER PARTS ONLY AFTER INSPECTION HAS DETERMINED THAT BRAKE BOOSTER REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED.

^ Three (3) unique part packages are required for this recall depending upon the vehicle model. Refer to the Parts section for details.
