C. Test Fuel Pump Pressure (2.4 Liter Engine)

1. Release the fuel system pressure as follows:

a. Remove the fuel pump relay from the Power Distribution Center (PDC). For location of the relay, refer to the label on the underside of the PDC cover.

b. Start and ruin the engine until it stalls.

c. Attempt to restart the engine until it will no longer run.

d. Turn the ignition key to the "OFF" position.

e. Install the fuel pump relay into the PDC.

2. Insert a fuel line removal tool (Snap-on FIH9055-1 or equivalent) to disconnect the quick connect from the fuel rail.

CAUTION:
Do not allow fuel from the fuel line to drip into the alternator.

3. Install the fuel pressure adapter (6539) between the fuel rail and fuel line.

4. Install the pressure fitting adapter (CH8512) and pressure transducer (235159) onto the test port on fuel pressure adapter.

5. Start the engine and read the fuel pressure:

> If the fuel pressure reading is below 55 p.s.i., the fuel pump module does not require replacement. Turn off the engine, repeat Step 1 to release fuel system pressure, disconnect the pressure transducer, pressure fitting, pressure fitting adapter and reconnect the fuel line to the fuel rail. If the vehicle is registered in California, continue with Section E - Complete Proof of Correction Form for California Residents. If the vehicle is not registered in California, return the vehicle to the customer. No further action is required.

> If the fuel pressure reading is 55 p.s.i. or above, the fuel pump module must be replaced. Continue with Section D - Fuel Pump Module Replacement.
