Difficulty Releasing Soft Top Plastic Edge Retainers From B-Pillar Area Of Door Frame
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves trimming material from a section of the plastic retainer, used to secure the edges of the soft top to the door frame, in the immediate area of the B-Pillar.
MODELS:
2007 (JK) Wrangler
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicle equipped with four (4) door soft top (sales code VJO) and built on or before January 19, 2007 (MDH 0119XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may experience difficulty when attempting to lower/remove the 4 door soft top. The customer may not be able to easily release/remove the soft top plastic edge retainers at the rail on top of the door frame in the immediate area of the B-Pillar.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the above condition is present perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. At the windshield header (top), release the soft top latches. This will take the tension off of the soft top material.
2. Locate the plastic edge retainers at the B-Pillar (Fig. 1).
3. Remove the right side soft top edge retainers from the door frame.
4. Protect the soft top fabric from damage by isolating the plastic retainers from the soft top fabric. A clean fender cover can be used.
5. Using aviation style tin snips, remove plastic material from the front soft top edge retainer (Fig. 2).
6. Remove plastic material from the rear soft top edge retainer (Fig. 3).
7. With a file, trim (dress off) the plastic retainers where the material was removed.
8. Install the plastic retainers to the door frame.
9. Verify that the retainers can be released easily at the B-Pillar.
10. Repeat steps 3 through 9 to the left side of the soft top plastic edge retainer.
11. Latch the soft top to the windshield header.
