Body - Water Leaks Onto Load Area Carpet

Water Leak On Load Floor On Right Or Left Side Or Both
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves sealing a body seam at the liftgate header and/or the luggage rack channel seam area.
MODELS:
2008 (KK) Liberty
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before September 5, 2007 (MDH 0905XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Wet load floor carpet or water accumulation on the load floor.
DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer indicates that condition is present and no obvious water leaks are found, perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
SPECIAL TOOLS/EQUIPMENT REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Open the liftgate and using a trim stick C-4755, remove the rear header trim panel at top of opening (Fig. 1).
2. Pull the primary liftgate seal off from the top of the liftgate opening (Fig. 1).
3. Inspect sheet metal seams at top of D - pillar AND all the way across and top of header, from outside to outside and below hinges for voids, skips and pinholes (Fig. 2 and Fig. 3).
4. Are there voids or pinholes in sheet metal sealer?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 5.
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 8.
5. Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol and completely dry and then thoroughly cover the void area with Mopar sealer p/n 04318026. Push the sealer into the void area. Allow sealer to dry completely.
6. Install the liftgate seal.
7. Install the trim panel.
8. Remove the rear mount for the luggage rack rail. Using a trim stick C-4755 remove the trim cover on both sides of vehicle
9. Remove the (2) 15 mm capped nuts.
10. Lift the rear mount and lower trim cover up and set the rail on a rolled cloth fender protector toward the center of the vehicle.
11. Inspect the body seam near the rear studs in the luggage rack channel on both sides of the vehicle (Fig 4).
12. Are there voids, hairline cracks or pinholes in sheet metal sealer?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 13
b. No >>> Proceed to Step # 15
13. Clean with Isopropyl Alcohol and completely dry and then thoroughly cover the void area with Mopar sealer p/n 04318026. Seal the seam area from the rear of the vehicle forward to 2 In (50 mm) past the front mounting stud and around the base of the studs. Allow sealer to dry completely. (Fig 5)
14. Repeat this process on the other side.
15. Install the luggage rack rear lower trim and mount on studs.
16. Install (2) capped nuts.
17. Install upper trim cap.
18. If voids in sheet metal seams were discovered and repaired, bulletin is complete. If NO voids were discovered and repaired, further diagnosis is required.
