Torque Specifications

Cylinder Head Torque And Sequence

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are tightened using a torque plus angle procedure. The bolts must be examined BEFORE reuse. If the threads are necked down the bolts should be replaced.

Necking can be checked by holding a straight edge against the threads. If all the threads do not contact the scale (1), the bolt should be replaced.

NOTE: The cylinder head bolts are tightened using an angle torque procedure, however, the bolts are not a torque-to-yield design.

Tighten the bolts in sequence using the following steps and torque values:
Step 1: Tighten bolts 1-8, 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.).
Step 2: Verify that bolts 1-8, all reached 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.), by repeating step-1 without loosening the bolts. Tighten bolts 9 through 12 to 14 Nm (10 ft. lbs.).
Step 3: Tighten bolts 1-8, 90 degrees.
Step 4: Tighten bolts 1-8, 90 degrees, again. Tighten bolts 9-12, 26 Nm (19 ft. lbs.)

Intake Manifold Torque And Sequence

Intake Manifold Bolts* 12 Nm (105 in. lbs.)
*Tighten in sequence shown

Camshaft Bearing Cap Torque And Sequence

NOTE: Position the right side camshaft so that the camshaft sprocket dowel is near the 10 o'clock position, This will place the camshaft at the neutral position easing the installation of the camshaft bearing caps.

NOTE: Caps should be installed so that the stamped numbers on the caps are in numerical order, (1 through 4) from the front to the rear of the engine. All caps should be installed so that the stamped arrows on the caps point toward the front of the engine.

Camshaft Bearing Cap Retaining Bolt* 11 Nm (100 in. lbs.).
*Tighten bearing cap retaining bolts in 1/2 turn increments starting with the middle cap

Main Bearing Cap Torque And Sequence

NOTE: Lubricate the bedplate retaining bolts with clean engine oil prior to installation.

Tighten Bedplate Retaining Bolts as follows in sequence shown.
Step 1 Hand tighten bolts 1D,1G and 1F until the bedplate contacts the block.
Step 2 Tighten bolts 1A - 1J to 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
Step 3 Tighten bolts 1 - 8 to 7 Nm (5 ft. lbs.)
Step 4 Turn bolts 1 - 8 an additional 90°.
Step 5 Tighten bolts A - E to 27 Nm ( 20 ft. lbs.).

Connecting Rod Bearing Cap Torque

Connecting Rod Bearing Cap
Step 1 27 Nm (20 ft. lbs.)
Step 2 tighten additional 90°

Crankshaft Pulley Torque

Crankshaft Damper Bolt 175Nm (130 ft. lbs.)

Flex Plate Torque And Sequence

Flexplate Retaining Bolts* 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)
*Tighten in sequence shown

Flywheel Torque

Flywheel Retaining Bolts 81 Nm (60 ft. lbs.)

Oil Pump Torque And Sequence

Oil Pump Bolts* 28 Nm (250 in. lbs.)
*Tighten in sequence shown

Exhaust Manifold Torque

Exhaust Manifold Bolts and Nuts* 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.)
*Tighten from center arm and work outward

Water Pump Torque And Sequence

Water Pump Mounting Bolts 54 Nm (40 ft. lbs.)
