Rattle Sound In Engine Area With A/C On, Intermittent A/C Or No A/C
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves checking for adequate clearance between the serpentine belt tensioner arm and the tensioner arm stop. If clearance is not adequate, serpentine belt must be replaced.
MODELS:
2008 (KA) Nitro
2008 (KK) Liberty
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles with a 3.7L engine (sales code EKG) built before September 07, 2007 (MDH 0907XX)
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Vehicle operator may experience a knocking noise from the front of the engine. This noise may be more noticeable with the NC on.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the vehicle operator or technician experiences a knocking noise with NC on, measure the clearance between the serpentine belt tensioner arm and the tensioner arm stop:
1. Lift the vehicle on a suitable hoist.
2. Measure the distance between the serpentine belt tensioner arm and the tensioner arm stop.
3. Is the clearance between the tensioner arm and the tensioner arm stop less than 11 mm?
^ NO >>> This bulletin does not apply, further diagnosis is required.
^ YES >>> Perform the Repair Procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
Replace the serpentine belt (p/n 53013905AC) using the removal and installation procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 7 - Cooling > Accessory Drive> Belt Accessory Drive > Removal and Installation - 3.7L.
