Fuel System - Sloshing Noise From Fuel Tank

SUBJECT:
Sloshing Sound When Fuel Tank Is Between 5/8 to 7/8 Of A Full Tank

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting the battery tray and wiring trays under the front seats for water and then only if necessary replacing the fuel tank if the condition occurs as described in the Symptom/Condition.

MODELS:

2011 (WK) Grand Cherokee

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles equipped with a 3.6L or 5.7L engine (sales code ERB or EZH) built before December 16, 2010 (MDH1216XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Some customers may experience a condition where they hear a sloshing sound while in stop and go traffic while the fuel tank is between 5/8 to 7/8 full.

To correct this condition a new fuel tank has been released with built in baffling.

DIAGNOSIS:
If the customer experiences the symptom/condition, proceed to the repair procedure.





PARTS REQUIRED:

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

1. Move the right front seat to the forward most position.

2. Inspect battery tray for presence of water. If water is present then this bulletin does not apply further diagnosis is required to identify leak into passenger cabin.

3. Move the left front seat to the forward most position.

4. Inspect wiring tray under seat for presence of water. If water is present then this bulletin does not apply further diagnosis is required to identify leak into passenger cabin.

5. Replace the fuel tank (p/n 68140733AA). Refer to the detailed service procedures available in DealerCONNECT > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 14-Fuel > Fuel Delivery > Tank, Fuel Removal and Installation Procedures.

NOTE:
Be sure to install a new 0-ring onto the existing Fuel Pump and Level Unit.
