SUBJECT:
Flash: Ambient Temperature Display Is Inaccurate Or Slow To Update
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Instrument Cluster with new software.
MODELS:
2011 (WK) Grand Cherokee
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built prior to January 28, 2011 (MDH 0128XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
The customer may indicate that the ambient air temperature display is inaccurate, slow to update, or stuck on one temperature.
DIAGNOSIS:
Using a Scan Tool (wiTECH) with the appropriate Diagnostic Procedures available in TechCONNECT, verify no DTC's are set. Pay specific attention to ensure that there are no ambient temperature DTCs (i.e. P0071, P0072, or P0073) in the PCM. If DTCs are present record them on the repair order and repair as necessary before proceeding further with this bulletin.
If the customer describes the symptom, perform the Repair Procedure.
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.
NOTE:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, the flash should be restarted.
CAUTION:
If this flash process is interrupted/aborted, and the instrument cluster appears to be nonresponsive, red on the wiTECH ECU topology screen, cycle the ignition to lock and perform a battery reset. Ensure the battery remain disconnected for 20 seconds or more to allow for a full system shutdown. Once the battery is reconnected cycle the ignition to the run position and restart the flash.
1. Flash reprogram the Instrument Cluster. Help using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing the Instrument Cluster is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the "HELP tab" on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then "HELP CONTENTS". This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen where help topics can be selected.
2. Clear any DTC's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTECH application will automatically present all DTCs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.
3. Wait 20 seconds and then cycle the ignition and verify that the Cluster and EVIC function properly.
