Folding Top Assembly Frame - Installation

Installation

WARNING: Always use Urethane to bond Folding Top Cover Assembly to the Roof Panel. Never use products such as Silicone or other types of adhesives, as this will jeopardize the integrity of the roof system.

WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious or fatal injury

CAUTION: To help prevent water leaks, keep folding top open during installation, until urethane has fully cured. This avoids pressurizing the passenger compartment if a door is slammed before the urethane is cured

CAUTION: Protect all exposed painted and trimmed surfaces from coming in contact with urethane and primers

CAUTION: Do not touch pre-primed area of the new top while removing it from box. Contact could adversely effect bonding

NOTE: Urethane to be used is Mopar Part # 04864015AB

1. If applicable, remove new folding top frame from packaging by lifting from the side rails. This will avoid making contact with the pre-primed area.
2. Place folding roof assembly on a clean flat surface, with the mating surface facing upward.
3. If re-using the original folding top assembly, install the weather seal at this time. Align the grease pencil mark that was established during removal. Then using hand pressure attach seal to assembly.

4. Prep the roof opening perimeter (1) and the original urethane bead (trimmed down as explained in the removal process), by using an alcohol wipe to clean 75mm. (3 in.) outward from the opening edge (2).

5. Repeat alcohol wipe (2) to the inner top seam (1) where urethane bead is to be applied.
6. Allow to dry for 1 minute.

7. Apply urethane primer to any paint that was damaged on the roof during removal, within the area that the weather seal will cover. If the roof has been re-painted, prime in the urethane mating area. Apply urethane primer per manufacturer recommendations.
8. Cut a 4 X 6mm. notch in the urethane tube nozzle (1) as shown.

NOTE: Follow urethane manufacturer recommendations for work, handling and curing times.

NOTE: Motors shown for reference point for start and finish point of urethane bead only and should not be installed until frame is mounted

9. Apply a 6 X 10 mm bead of urethane (2) to the pre-primed area of the frame (1), using a power caulk gun, or equivalent. Start and finish at the rear center of the frame.

10. With one person on each corner, carefully place folding top straight and evenly down upon the roof, allow guide pins (3) and fastener studs (2) to aid in proper alignment.
11. Visually verify that urethane has made complete touch-down to the roof around the entire perimeter.
12. Install the retainers to the folding top studs (2) and torque to 7 Nm. Tighten in a sequence starting in the rear of the vehicle and working forward, tightening from sides to side as working forward.
13. Allow urethane to cure per manufacturer recommendations.
14. Connect the folding top electrical connector (5) to the to the overhead harness on the left side of vehicle.
