Water Leaking On The Instrument Panel From Rear View Mirror Area
OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves inspecting and if necessary repairing the right side freedom panel.
MODELS:
2011 JK Wrangler
NOTE:
This bulletin applies to vehicles built before October 07, 2010 (MDH1010XX).
SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
Water is dripping the instrument panel.
DIAGNOSIS:
If the symptom/condition is experienced, proceed to the repair procedure.
PARTS REQUIRED:
REPAIR PROCEDURE:
1. Water flow test the center of the right and left freedom top panels. Were there any leaks near the instrument panel from rear view mirror area?
a. Yes >>> Proceed to Step # 2.
b. No >>> This bulletin does not apply continue further diagnosis.
2. Remove the right side freedom panel. Refer to the detailed removal procedure available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Removable Top, Hard> Removal steps 1 through 4.
3. Gently roll and peel back the foam being careful not to tear it on the inboard side of the freedom panel at the front and rear seams (Fig. 1).
4. Clean both seams with isopropyl alcohol and let it flash (Fig. 2)(Fig. 3).
5. Install a 1 (25.4mm) long .157 (4mm) diameter piece of butyl (Fig 4) at both front and rear seams(Fig 5)(Fig 6). When installing the butyl overlap it on the existing butyl and knead into the seam.
6. Roll the foam of the front and rear inboard seams back into place.
7. Install right freedom top panel. Refer to the detailed installation procedure available in DealerConnect > TechCONNECT under: Service Info > 23-Body > Removable Top, Hard > Installation steps 6 through 10.
8. Return the vehicle to the customer or dealer inventory.
