Power Lock Switch - Description
DESCRIPTION
The power lock system can be controlled from within the passenger compartment of the vehicle by a two-way, momentary, resistor multiplexed, single gang switch (1) secured within a switch mounting bezel located near the front of each front door inside trim panel. The power lock switch is secured to the back of the mounting bezel by two screws through two mounting tabs (3) integral to the switch housing so that only the switch rocker (4) is visible where it protrudes through the bezel.
The power lock switch mounting bezel is secured by two integral engagement tabs at the bottom and two small metal snap clips at the top within an opening near the forward end of each front door inside trim panel so that the switches can be serviced without removing the trim panel. An integral connector receptacle (2) on the back of the switch housing connects the switch to the vehicle electrical system through a dedicated take out and connector of the front door wire harness.
The power lock switch rocker has a slightly convex knurled pad on the forward LOCK end, and a slightly concave smooth pad on the rearward UNLOCK end to allow tactile identification of the switch functions. There are also white International Control and Display Symbol graphics applied to the switch mounting bezel at each end of the switch rocker, which provide a clear visual identification of the switch functions. A blue-green Light-Emitting Diode (LED) (5) located within the UNLOCK end of the switch rocker provides improved switch visibility whenever the exterior lighting is turned ON.
The power lock switches cannot be adjusted or repaired and, if faulty or damaged, the entire switch unit must be replaced. The driver side and passenger side switches are interchangeable. The switch mounting bezels are unique for the driver and passenger sides of the vehicle and are available for separate service replacement.
