Remote Start Antenna - Removal
REMOVAL
Special Tools:
WARNING: To avoid serious or fatal injury on vehicles equipped with airbags, disable the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) before attempting any steering wheel, steering column, airbag, seat belt tensioner, impact sensor or instrument panel component diagnosis or service. Disconnect and isolate the battery negative (ground) cable, then wait two minutes for the system capacitor to discharge before performing further diagnosis or service. This is the only sure way to disable the SRS. Failure to take the proper precautions could result in accidental airbag deployment.
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Using a trim stick or another equivalent, gently pry the edges of the instrument panel end cap trim panel (1) to remove. Repeat for the opposite side.
3. Using a trim stick or another equivalent, gently pry the upper and lower edges of the knee blocker trim panel (1) to remove.
4. Remove the lower instrument cluster to I/P fastener (1) on the left hand side of the steering column.
5. Remove the lower instrument cluster to I/P fastener (1) on the right hand side of the steering column.
6. Remove the storage bin liner (1) located in the top center of the I/P.
7. Remove the storage bin screw (1) from the top center of the I/P.
8. Using trim stick or equivalent, gently pry the window switch assembly (1) away from the instrument cluster bezel.
9. Unlock the connector, disconnect the window switch assembly (1) and remove.
10. Remove the instrument cluster to I/P screw (1) located in the window switch cavity.
11. Using trim stick or equivalent, gently pry the edges of instrument cluster bezel (1) away from the I/P to disengage the snap retainers.
12. Remove the instrument cluster bezel (1) from the I/P.
NOTE: Steering wheel removed for clarity.
13. Position the column tilt at the full-downward position.
14. Remove the two screws (4) attaching the upper shroud (1) to the lower shroud (2). After removing the screws, unclip the shrouds from each other by applying hand pressure along the seams where the shrouds connect on the sides, then remove the upper shroud.
15. Remove the screw (3) attaching the lower shroud (2) to the steering column (6). Remove the lower shroud (2).
16. Remove the four screws (3) that secure the instrument cluster (1) to the instrument panel armature (2).
17. Pull the top of the instrument cluster rearward far enough to access and disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the connector receptacles on the back of the cluster housing.
18. Remove the instrument cluster from the instrument panel.
19. Remove the glove box (1).
20. Remove the trim plug (1) from the access hole in the top of the defroster grill between the windshield and the I/P.
21. Working through the access hole, loosen the nut that secures the passenger airbag upper bracket and the instrument panel armature to the stud near the windshield fence line.
22. Reach up into the instrument panel glove box opening to access and remove the two nuts (3) that secure the passenger airbag lower studs to the instrument panel armature (2) on each side of the glove box latch striker (1).
23. Remove the two bolts from the grab handle applique (1).
24. Using trim stick or equivalent, remove the applique by gently prying the edges of the grab handle applique (1) away from the grab handle (3) to disengage the retainers.
25. Remove the two grab handle to I/P bolts.
26. Remove the grab handle (3).
27. Using trim stick or equivalent, gently pry the edges of passenger side I/P cover (1) away from the I/P to disengage the snap retainers.
28. Slightly reposition the passenger side I/P cover (1). Do not remove at this time.
CAUTION: Do not pull on the instrument panel wire harness take outs or pry on the connector insulators to disengage the connectors from the passenger airbag inflator connector receptacles. Improper removal of these take outs and their connector insulators can result in damage to the airbag circuits or the connector insulators.
29. Disconnect the instrument panel wire harness connectors from the airbag inflators. Firmly grasp and pull the lock straight out from the connector insulator, then pull the insulators straight out from the airbag inflator to disconnect them from the connector receptacles.
30. Remove the passenger airbag and I/P cover (1) from the instrument panel as a unit.
31. If equipped, remove the compass module (1) from the mounting tabs located near the top center of the I/P. Do not disconnect the compass module.
32. Remove the remote start antenna (1) from the mounting tabs located near the passenger side door.
33. Begin remove the remote start antenna harness from the driver side of the vehicle.
34. Remove the PIA edge biter clip (1) from the I/P just under the compass module tab.
35. Remove the PIA tie wrap (1) from the compass module mounting location.
36. Continue removing the harness from the driver side.
37. Remove the I/P to structure screw (1) located in the top center of the I/P, pull gently on the center bracket and pull the harness from behind it.
38. Remove the PIA edge biter clips (2) to the I/P structure.
39. Finish pulling out the harness and antenna and discard.
