THIS SERVICE BULLETIN IS ALSO BEING RELEASED AS RAPID RESPONSE TRANSMITTAL (RRT) 11-070. ALL APPLICABLE SOLD AND UN-SOLD RRT VIN's HAVE BEEN LOADED. TO VERIFY THAT THIS RRT SERVICE ACTION IS APPLICABLE TO THE VEHICLE, USE VIP OR PERFORM A VIN SEARCH IN TECHCONNECT. ALL REPAIRS ARE REIMBURSABLE WITHIN THE PROVISIONS OF WARRANTY.

HELP USING THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION FOR FLASHING AN ECU IS AVAILABLE BY SELECTING "HELP" THEN "HELP CONTENTS" AT THE TOP OF THE wiTECH DIAGNOSTIC APPLICATION WINDOW.

THE wiTECH SOFTWARE LEVEL MUST BE AT RELEASE 12.01 OR HIGHER TO PERFORM THIS PROCEDURE.

SUBJECT:
Flash: Steering Wheel Mounted Audio, EVIC Switches Function Intermittently Or Not At All

OVERVIEW:
This bulletin involves flash reprogramming the Instrument Cluster with new software.

MODELS:

2011 (JK) Wrangler

NOTE:
This bulletin applies to JK vehicles built prior to June 6, 2011 (MDH 0606XX).

SYMPTOM/CONDITION:
All of the following symptom/Conditions must be exhibited:

^ The steering wheel mounted audio and/or EVIC switches may function intermittently or not at all.

^ The steering wheel mounted cruise control switches function properly.

^ Steering wheel mounted audio and/or EVIC switch functionality may be restored by honking the horn or by disconnecting and then restoring power to the steering wheel switches.

^ DTC U1109 may, or may not, be stored in the cluster

NOTE:
This bulletin involves corrections to the Instrument Cluster's LIN sleep strategy which have been root caused to occurrences of steering wheel audio and EVIC switch lock up. It will not correct a malfunctioning LIN Steering Wheel Switch or wiring related issues.

DIAGNOSIS:
If a customer's VIN is listed in VIP or your RRT VIN list, perform the repair. For all other customers that describe the symptom/condition or if the technician finds the DIG, perform the Repair Procedure.

REPAIR PROCEDURE:

NOTE:
Install a battery charger to ensure battery voltage does not drop below 13.2 volts. Do not allow the charging voltage to climb above 13.5 volts during the flash process.

NOTE:
If this flash process is interruptedlaborted, the flash should be restarted.

1. Using the wiTECH Diagnostic Application for flashing an Instrument Cluster is made available through the wiTECH Diagnostic Application. For instructions select the "HELP tab on upper portion of the wiTECH window, then "HELP CONTENTS. This will open the Welcome to wiTECH Help screen were help topics can now selected.

2. Clear any DIG's that may have been set in other modules due to reprogramming. The wiTEGH application will automatically present all DIGs after the flash and allow the tech to clear them.

3. Cycle the ignition and verify that the Cluster and EVIG function properly.
