Folding Top Assembly Frame - Removal
Removal
WARNING: Always use Urethane to bond Folding Top Cover Assembly to the Roof Panel. Never use products such as Silicone or other types of adhesives, as this will jeopardize the integrity of the roof system.
WARNING: Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious or fatal injury
1. Cycle Full Open Retractable Roof (F.O.R.R.) to full open position.
2. Remove (drop) headliner down far enough to access F.O.R.R. wire connector (5), drive motors (8) and attachment studs (2),Headliner - Removal
3. Disconnect wiring from folding top connector (5) and headliner harness.
4. Remove 14 fasteners from the attachment studs (2) from the entire perimeter of the folding top frame (1).
5. If re-using the original frame assembly it will require marking the weather seal (4) and frame (1) with grease pencil or equivalent. Mark a straight line crossing over both parts. This will aid in proper alignment during re-assembly.
6. Remove the weather seal (4) by griping firmly and pulling upward.
7. Install 50mm. (2 in.) masking tape 2-3 layers thick (2), to the roof panel painted finish, around the perimeter of the frame (1). Be aware that this step will only provide minimal protection to the roof painted surface.
CAUTION: Extreme care should be taken as not to damage the surrounding painted surface and the folding top assembly.
NOTE: For cutting blade longevity, maneuver the blade around the fastener studs and alignment pins.
8. Using an oscillating knife equipped with a "bent" blade (1) placed between the roof and the folding top frame (2), cut the bead of urethane, completely around the perimeter. Maneuvering around the alignment pins and fasteners as needed.
9. With the aid of an assistant, remove the folding top assembly.
10. If re-using the original roof or the folding top frame it is necessary to remove the urethane bead down to a maximum height of 1mm. Use a gasket scraper or equivalent to trim as close as possible to the part without cutting into the part or damaging the paint.
11. Remove masking tape from roof.
NOTE: Carefully examine the roof panel for any damage that will be exposed beyond what the weather seal will cover. If any exists it must be repaired and refinished before proceeding to the installation process.
