A/C Compressor - Removal





A/C COMPRESSOR - 3.6L ENGINE

WARNING: Refer to the applicable Warnings and Cautions for this system before performing the following operation Service Precautions and . Failure to follow these instructions may result in possible serious or fatal injury.

CAUTION: The A/C receiver/drier must be replaced if an internal failure of the A/C compressor has occurred A/C Receiver Drier - Removal . Failure to replace the A/C receiver drier can cause serious damage to the replacement A/C compressor.

NOTE: The A/C compressor may be removed and repositioned without disconnecting the refrigerant lines or discharging the refrigerant system. Discharging is not necessary if servicing the A/C clutch or engine.





1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.
2. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system Service and Repair.
3. Remove the coolant recovery container Coolant Recovery Bottle - Removal.
4. Disengage the harness brackets (3) from the frame rail and the stud on the A/C compressor (2).
5. Disconnect the wire harness connector (1) from the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) (4) and position the wire harness out of the way.





6. Remove the nuts (2) that secure the A/C discharge line (1) and A/C suction line (4) to the A/C compressor (3).
7. Disconnect the A/C refrigerant lines from the A/C compressor and remove and discard the O-ring seals and gaskets.
8. Disconnect the engine wire harness from the A/C clutch coil connector





9. Remove the accessory drive belt Serpentine Accessory Drive Belt - Removal.

NOTE: The two rear retaining bolts cannot be completely removed from the A/C compressor until the compressor is removed from the engine compartment.

10. Support the A/C compressor (2) and remove the four bolts (1) that secure the compressor to the engine.
11. Remove the A/C compressor from the engine compartment.
12. Install plugs in, or tape over the open refrigerant line fittings and compressor ports.
