Dashboard / Instrument Panel: Service and Repair

NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove front and rear sections of center console.

3. Remove knee bolster assembly, Fig. 5.
4. Remove radio and T-bar section.
5. Remove relay bracket.
6. Remove steering wheel as outlined in Electrical section.
7. Remove hood release handle lockscrew, hood release handle and cable assembly nut.
8. Remove left front pillar trim.
9. Remove lower lefthand instrument panel cover.
10. Remove two mounting bolts from left side of T-bar.
11. Remove three mounting bolts from left side of instrument panel.
12. Remove ashtray to allow removal of center panel trim.
13. Remove center panel trim.
14. Remove ventilation control panel.
15. Remove cap from center of instrument panel near windshield.
16. Remove mounting bolt from area under center cap.
17. Remove glove box.
18. Remove right front pillar trim.
19. Remove lower righthand cover.
20. Remove two mounting bolts on right side of T-bar.
21. Remove three mounting bolts from right side of instrument panel assembly.
22. Remove two mounting bolts on either side of steering column, then lower steering column to floor level.
23. Remove two mounting bolts under left side of instrument panel.
24. Disconnect all connectors between instrument panel and vehicle bulkhead electrical wire harness.
25. Remove instrument panel.
26. Reverse procedure to install. Torque instrument panel mounting bolts to 102 inch lbs.
27. On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.
