A/C Compressor Installation (1995 Models Only)

A/C Compressor Replacement Procedure
(1995 Models only):

Installation

1. Install the new A/C compressor mounting bracket using one (1) new 10x35 mm bolt and three (3) new 10x45 mm bolts. Torque the bolts to specification.

Tightening Torque:
32 ft-lb (43 N.m)





* NOTICE
Install the shorter (10x35 mm) bolt in the lower mounting bracket hole as shown.





2. Remove and discard the new A/C compressor shipping caps then install the compressor using the four (4) existing bolts. Torque the bolts to specification.

Tightening Torque:
18 ft-lb (24 N.m)

CAUTION
The A/C compressor is shipped with a slight nitrogen gas charge. Always wear eye protection when removing the shipping cap bolts and caps.

7. Lower the vehicle.





8. Install the new discharge hose onto the A/C compressor using one (1) existing bolt, then torque the bolt to specification.

Tightening Torque:
18 ft-lb (24 N.m)





9. Connect the discharge hose to the condenser, then use two (2) wrenches to tighten the fitting to specification.

Tightening Torque (discharge hose to condenser fitting):
16 ft-lb (22 N.m)





10. Install the new suction hose onto the A/C compressor using one (1) existing bolt, then torque the bolt to specification.

Tightening Torque:
18 ft-lb (24 N.m)





11. Connect the suction hose to the suction pipe, then use two (2) wrenches to tighten the fitting to specification.

Tightening Torque (suction hose to suction pipe):
24 ft-lb (33 N.m)





12. Route the A/C compressor clutch wire around the suction hose as shown, then reconnect the A/C compressor clutch electrical connector.





13. Reinstall the evaporative emissions canister.





14. Evacuate and recharge the air conditioner system with 1 lb. 9 oz. (1.54 lbs.) of R-134a refrigerant.

* NOTICE
^ Follow system evacuation/charging procedures provided by the refrigerant charging station manufacturer.

^ Evacuate the A/C system for a minimum of 15 minutes. Amount of time required for evacuation varies depending on amount of time system was exposed to the atmosphere, climate conditions, etc.





15. Reconnect and tighten the negative battery cable.

16. Start the engine, then switch the A/C system ON and verify proper A/C system operation.

* NOTICE
"Reset" the anti-theft system in Sportage models equipped with the Kia logic control audio unit.
