Control Assembly: Service and Repair
NOTE: On models equipped with airbag system, refer to Technician Safety Information for system disarming and arming procedures.1. Discharge and recover A/C system refrigerant.
2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove battery retaining bracket.
4. Remove battery.

5. Disconnect A/C outlet line from evaporator outlet, Fig. 11.
6. Disconnect A/C inlet line from evaporator inlet.
7. Plug line fittings to prevent moisture from entering the system.
8. Remove blower motor assembly drain hose.
9. Remove glove compartment.
10. Remove five screws securing lower righthand instrument panel trim panel. Four screws are located around glove compartment trim and one screw is on righthand end side of instrument panel.
11. Remove righthand instrument panel lower trim panel.
12. Remove screw attaching upper center console side cover to allow access left instrument panel lower support.

13. Remove left bolt attaching lower left side of instrument panel lower support, Fig. 12.
14. Remove right bolt attaching lower right side of instrument panel lower support and remove support.
15. Disconnect fresh/recirculation cable from inlet duct bell crank.
16. Disconnect blower motor electrical connectors.
17. Pull carpet away from floor board to gain access to TCU cover.
18. Remove top two mounting bolts attaching blower/evaporator unit to bulkhead.

19. Remove bottom two attaching nuts securing bottom of blower/evaporator unit to bulkhead mounting studs, Fig. 13.
20. Remove blower unit assembly from vehicle.
21. Disconnect blower motor resistor connector.
22. Remove blower motor resistor.
23. Disconnect blower motor connector.
24. Remove three screws at top of blower motor.
25. Remove blower motor vent tubing.

26. Remove blower motor with fan wheel attached, Fig. 14.
27. Remove C-clip retaining fan wheel on blower motor shaft.
28. Reverse procedure to install. Torque all nuts and screws to 80 inch lbs.
