The Transfer Case Fluid Level specification for Sorento as identified on page TR-93 of the 03 Sorento Service Manual is incorrect and may result in unnecessary addition of fluid. KMC states that the acceptable level is actually lower than the filler plug level opening and offers the following guideline:

When checking the fluid level through the opening of the filler plug (note that mass damper may have to be removed for proper access, as shown in photo), check to see that the fluid level is no more than 10 - 13 mm (0.4 - 0.5 inches) below the level plug opening. Add fluid as required only to bring the level up to the new range. Do not fill to the level of the filler plug opening.
