Sirius Satellite Radio (General Information - 023)
Description
This bulletin provides information needed to confirm normal operation and perform basic troubleshooting on Kia models equipped with factory-installed Sirius satellite radio.
Borrego (HM) basic audio unit shown; other models are similar with respect to Sirius functionality.

Service Procedure
SIRIUS SATELLITE RADIO CONTROLS
1. SAT/SIRIUS button: Press this button with the audio unit ON to access Sirius Satellite Radio. Pressing this button repeatedly will cycle through SAT1/SAT2/SAT3 bands.
2. SEEK/TRACK buttons: Momentarily press SEEK or TRACK in Sirius Satellite Radio mode to select the previous or next channel. Press and hold SEEK or TRACK to scroll continuously.
3. Preset Selection Buttons: Momentarily press a preset button to recall a stored preset. Press and hold a preset button to store a favorite Sirius Satellite radio channel.
4. SCAN button: Press the SCAN button to cycle through each channel. The system will pause at each channel for a period of 10 seconds.
5. Tune Knob/ENTER button: Use the Tune knob to select a channel; press the knob to activate the ENTER function and access that channel.
6. CAT/FOLDER buttons: Press the CAT/FOLDER button to access the Category List Mode. In this mode, use the Tune/Enter knob to select a category; press the ENTER knob to access the first channel in a selected category.
7. INFO button: Press INFO to cycle through available channel, category, song artist, and song title information.
* NOTICE
On Kia vehicles equipped with factory-installed navigation systems. The Category/List and INFO functions are accessed from the touch screen.
CONFIRMATION OF NORMAL OPERATION
Vehicle Preparation:
1. Ensure that the vehicle is in an area with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
2. Place the ignition key into the ACC or ON position.
3. Turn the audio system ON.

The vehicle MUST be in an area with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky for Sirius Satellite Radio to operate. Do not attempt to diagnose Sirius Satellite Radio concerns in the shop, inside any covered structure, or underneath an overhang.
Enter Sirius (SAT) mode:
1. Press the SAT/Sirius button. The system should enter Sirius Satellite Radio Mode.
Retrieve Electronic Serial Number (ESN):
1. While in Sirius (SAT) mode, rotate the TUNE/ENTER knob to channel 0, then press the TUNE/ENTER knob. The ESN will display. No audio will be heard with channel 0 selected.
Select a Sirius Satellite Radio Channel:
1. While in Sirius (SAT) mode, rotate the TUNE/ENTER knob to select a channel, then press the TUNE/ENTER knob to confirm the selection.
-OR-
Use the SEEK/TRACK buttons to cycle through Sirius Satellite Radio Channels. The channel/song/artist information will display, and audio will be heard through the vehicle speakers.
Store a Sirius Satellite Radio Preset:
1. While in Sirius (SAT) mode, select a channel.
2. Press and hold one of the Preset Selection buttons.The audio unit will beep to confirm that the preset was stored.
TROUBLESHOOTING

The vehicle MUST be in an area with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky for Sirius Satellite Radio to operate. Do not attempt to diagnose Sirius Satellite Radio concerns in the shop, inside any covered structure, or underneath an overhang.
Unsubscribed Channel:
1. If an unsubscribed channel is selected, the audio will be muted, and the audio unit will display "CALL 888-539-SIRI". (7474)
2. Customer will need to contact Sirius regarding their Satellite Radio subscription.
ACQUIRING/NO SIGNAL message:
1. An ACQUIRING/NO SIGNAL message normally indicates that the Sirius Satellite Radio does not have a clear, unobstructed view of the sky.
2. Place the vehicle in an area with a clear, unobstructed view of the sky and verify that the signal is being received.
ANTENNA ERROR Message:
1. If an ANTENNA ERROR message is displayed in Sirius (SAT) mode, use the Electrical Troubleshooting Manual (ETM) information on the Kia Global Information System (KGIS) to verify the antenna connections and wiring condition.
No Audio In Sirius (SAT) mode:
1. Check for audio output in other audio modes (FM/AM/CD, etc.).
2. If output is present in other audio modes, refer to the previously listed steps to verify Sirius Satellite radio operation.
3. If output is not present in other audio modes, refer to the Shop/ETM sections on KGIS to continue audio system diagnosis.

Additional Information:
Program Plan Change:
1. Customer calls Sirius Customer Care and requests a program plan change.
2. Turn the radio ON and ensure that an unobstructed view of the sky is available.
3. The radio will display "Subscription Updated" with 30 seconds to 5 minutes. Refer to the "Antenna Error Message" section of this TSB if the message is not displayed within the 30 second to 5 minute time frame.
4. Perform additional troubleshooting if required.
Channel Lineup Update:
1. The radio will display "Updating XX%" during the channel lineup update process.
2. After the update, if channels are not accessible, turn the radio OFF for 30 seconds, then turn the radio back ON.
3. Perform additional troubleshooting if required.
