A/T - Installation Of Replacement Units

SOURCE: KIA Technician Times Volume 7 Issue 1, 2004

TITLE: Proper Installation Of A/T Replacement Units

APPLIES TO: ALL

SERVICE TIP:

When replacing a transmission assembly, DO NOT remove the torque converter from the replacement transmission. The turbine shaft O-ring can easily be damaged during removal and reinstallation of the torque converter (see photo). A damaged turbine shaft O-ring will prevent proper lock-up operation of the torque converter clutch.

DO NOT remove the torque converter retainer bracket until just prior to positioning the replacement transmission against the mounting surface of the engine block (see photo). This will prevent the torque converter from becoming partially dislodged from its proper position during the installation procedure.

Note: It is important to install the torque converter retaining bracket on the transmission core unit to prevent shipment damage. Make certain that the retaining bracket mounting bolts are properly tightened. Core units received by Kia Remanufacturing Center in damaged or incomplete condition (components or documents) may result in all or partial denial of credit.
