04/03/94

12/01/94/US

SUBJECT:
V8i Petrol Engine - Misfire/Stumble

MODEL:
Range Rover Defender

AFFECTED VEHICLES:
All V81 Petrol derivatives

DETAIL

A number of reports have been received which detail engine misfire/stumble condition under load. Investigation by Land Rover engineers has found that the pins in the female side of the diagnostic connector can open up resulting in a poor contact. The inadequate contact results in a poor/intermittant ground path at the connector, which will cause a misfire or stumble condition.

To overcome this condition the connector pins require resetting and cleaning. To prevent reoccurrence a cable tie wrap is placed around the male and female halves of the connector to secure them firmly together.

ACTION REQUIRED

Upon customer complaint follow the procedure below.
