Subject:
Cold Start - Service Action C855

Following complaints of a no start in temperatures below -5°F (-20°C), we have developed an improved fueling tune. This updated tune reduces the amount of fuel applied during starting below the above temperature and improves the cold starting of the engine.

In addition an engine oil change to 5W/30 or 5W/40 grade oil is required to raise the crank speed at starting (this is not required if the vehicle has already had an oil change at PDI in line with TIB # 12/07/94/US).

Land Rover Canada believe this improvement should be made available to all customers who own a 1993, 1994, or 1995 Model Year (MY) Land Rover vehicle. (This Service Action is not applicable to 1992 MY vehicles or earlier.)

The Service Action will be handled in two phases. Phase 1 will be for all dealers to update the prom in all in stock units, and any new arrivals until further notice. Notice will be given in the future of a "Safe VIN." Vehicles after this VIN will have had the updated prom fitted at the factory. Phase 2 is to inform customers of the Service Action. These phases will be run concurrently.

This Service Action will be run in conjunction with the Electronic Air Suspension (AS) Service Action C845. This will prevent owners of vehicles with AS from being contacted twice, and hence a possible two separate visits to your dealership.

There are two sample letters. The first will be sent to customers that own a 1993, 1994, or 1995 MY vehicle with AS. It informs them of both the Cold Start Service Action and the AS Service Action. The second letter will be sent to all customers that own a 1993, 1994, or 1995 MY vehicle without AS. These customers will only be informed about the Cold Start Service Action.

Parts availability throughout the Service Action will be regulated by a controlled release of the letters to the customers. It is important that service appointments are only made with customers that have received a letter.

Exact repair procedures and in-depth technical advice will be provided in Technical Information Bulletin C855.
