Interior Lighting Description and Operation

Interior Lighting

DESCRIPTION

Introduction
Operation of the interior lamps is controlled by the Central Junction Box (CJB). The interior lamps have two modes of operation; manual and automatic. In manual mode the interior lamps can be switched on and off using the momentary and latching switches adjacent each lamp, or disabled completely using the same switches.

In automatic mode, lamp functionality is controlled by the CJB on receipt of various input signals. To control the interior lamps, the CJB receives inputs from:
^ Ignition switch
^ Door switches
^ Tailgate switch
^ Glove compartment switch
^ Unlock signal
^ Interior lamp switches
^ Map reading lamp switches
^ Battery saver relay
^ Vanity mirror lamp switches.

OPERATION

Power Distribution
Feed from the positive battery terminal (C0192) is supplied to fusible link 11E and fusible link 15E (C0632) on an R wire. Both are located in the Battery Junction Box (BJB). Fusible link 15E (C0570) is connected to the following on an NG wire:
^ Fuse 1P
^ Approach lamp Field Effect Transistor (FET)
^ Interior lamp FETs
^ Central Junction Box (CJB).

All are located in the CJB (C0583).

Fusible link 11E (C0570) is connected to the ignition switch (C0028) by an N wire. When the ignition switch is in the auxiliary position, current flows across the switch (C0028) to the CJB (C0582) on a W wire. When the ignition switch is in the ignition position, current flows across the switch (C0028) to the CJB (C0582) on a Y wire.

Central Junction Box
The Central Junction Box (CJB) (C0586) monitors the condition of the door switches by providing reference feeds to the following:
^ The drivers Central Locking System (CLS) motor (C1449) on a BN wire
^ The passenger CLS motor (C1451) on a BU wire
^ The LH rear CLS motor (C0442) on a PLG wire
^ The RH rear CLS motor (C0442) on a PLG wire
^ The upper tailgate release motor (C0616) on a BR wire.

NOTE: The LH rear and RH rear CLS motors have the same connector number as they utilise the same harness.

The motors all contain normally open switches, which are provided ground paths on B wires. When a door is opened the relevant switch contacts close, creating a ground. Sensing this ground the CJB activates the interior lighting function by providing a feed to the approach lamp and interior lamp FETs and energising the battery saver relay.

Battery Saver Relay
The battery saver relay is provided a constant battery feed by fuse 1P, which is located in the CJB. Operation of the battery saver relay is controlled by the CJB. When energised, the relay provides power for the interior lighting system. The CJB de-energises the relay after 15 minutes of continuous operation.

When energised by the CJB, the battery saver relay (C0585) provides a feed to the following on LGW wires:
^ Front row map reading lamps (C0355)
^ Second row map reading lamps (C0356)
^ Third row LH map reading lamp (C1111)
^ Third row RH map reading lamp (C1112)
^ RH vanity mirror lamp (C0736)
^ LH vanity mirror lamp (C0737).

NOTE: Third row map reading lamps are only fitted to 7 seater vehicles.

All the above are provided a ground path on B wires.

The battery saver relay (C0582) also provides a feed to the glove box lamp (C0227) on an LGW wire. The lamp (C0227) is provided a ground path on a B wire.

Approach and Interior Lamp Field Effect Transistors
Field Effect Transistors (FETs) respond to heat generated by increased current flow caused by a short circuit. On a normal circuit this would cause the fuse to blow, rendering that component and circuit inoperative. The FETs respond to the heat increase and disconnect the supply to the affected circuit. When the fault is rectified or the FET has cooled, the FET will reset and operate the circuit normally.

The approach lamp FET (C0585) provides a feed to the drivers (C0444) and passengers (C0324) approach lamps on a PW wire. Both lamps are provided a ground path on B wires.

The interior lamp FETs (C0582 & C0585) provide feeds to the following on P wires:
^ The load space lamp (C0119)
^ Front interior lamp (C0355)
^ Rear interior lamp (C0356)
^ The ignition switch glow ring (C2524)
^ RH front footwell lamp (C0076)
^ LH front footwell lamp (C0077)
^ RH front puddle lamp (C0979 on LHD vehicles, C0978 on RHD vehicles)
^ LH front puddle lamp (C0978 on LHD vehicles, C0979 on RHD vehicles)
^ RH rear puddle lamp (C0980)
^ LH rear puddle lamp (C0980).

NOTE: The LH and RH rear puddle lamps have the same connector number as they utilise the same harness.
