Applicability

Introduction

Some 2003 - 2004 model year GX 470 vehicles may exhibit a MIL "ON" condition with one or more of the following DTCs: P0442, P0455 or P0456. Use the repair procedure below to address this condition.

APPLICABLE WARRANTY

^ This repair is covered under the Lexus Federal Emission Warranty. This warranty is in effect for 48 months or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first, from the vehicle's in-service date.

^ Warranty application is limited to occurrence of the specified condition described in this bulletin.





Required Tools & Equipment

Additional TIS Techstream units may be ordered by calling Approved Dealer Equipment (ADE).

Repair Procedure

1. Using TIS Techstream confirm that one or more of the following DTCs are set: P0442 P0455 or P0456.

2. Inspect the fuel cap.

Does it tighten properly?

^ YES - Proceed to step 3.

^ NO - Replace the fuel cap then proceed to step 4.

3. Inspect the EVAP system for the leak source.

Refer to the Technical Information System (TIS) applicable Service Bulletin or Repair Manual:

^ 2003 - 2004 GX 470 Service Bulletin:
TSIB No.EG008-04, "R/M Supplement: LEV II EVAP System Check - DTC P0441, P0442, P0446, P0451, P0452, P0453, P0455 & P0456"

^ GX 470 Repair Manual:
Engine/Hybrid System - Engine Control - "SFI System (2UZ-FE): P0441,
P0442, P0446, P0456 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected"

^ GX 470 Repair Manual:
Engine/Hybrid System - Engine Control - "SFI System (2UZ-FE) (from August 2003): P0441, P0442, P0446, P0455, P0456 Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected"

Was the leak source isolated at the fuel cap to filler pipe sealing area?

^ YES - Replace the fuel cap then proceed to step 4.

^ NO - This TSIB does NOT apply - Refer to the Repair Manual for further diagnosis.

4. Clear DTCs. The repair is complete.
